Can Honda Fit Beat Prius? 2008 Honda Fit vs. 2008 Toyota Prius

CHECK OUT THE HYBRID VS. NON-HYBRID COMPARISON:
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/…

Consider this: The 2008 Toyota Prius base model costs 50 percent more than the 2008 Honda Fit base model. Then again, the Prius is 50 percent more fuel-efficient than the Fit when you look at the EPA’s figure for combined mpg. So how does this add up?

You could save ,425 right now by buying a ,420 Honda Fit instead of the ,845 Toyota Prius. Of course, if the price of gasoline goes higher, then the Prius with its EPA combined estimate of 46 mpg will pay you back for your investment sooner than you’d expect. Then again, the Fit with its EPA combined estimate of 30 mpg doesn’t carry the same penalty of higher financing charges, insurance costs and taxes as the more expensive Prius, plus the Toyota will be needing a new ,585 battery pack when the odometer shows 100,000-150,000 miles.

Which car is best? It sounds like the kind of question for one of those money magazines. Yes, we’ve painted ourselves into a bit of a projected-cost corner with this comparison of the base models of the 2008 Honda Fit and 2008 Toyota Prius, but we think we can get out without stepping on too much wet paint

its mid and high end acceleration will be even further improved. and amazingly, thats all achieved while drinking even less fuel.

again, the prius is not an economy car, not a sports car, so of course it wont win any drag races with a bugatti veyron lol. but the acceleration is quite impressive for a car which does 4.4l/km. at certain speeds (mid range in particular) it can be compared to other 4 cylinder midsize cars. the 3rd gen will be even faster while being even more fuel efficient.

  5. serious22222 says:

its mid range acceleration (around the 35-90km/h speeds which is critical for overtaking) is particularly impressive and it is comparable to other 4 cylinder midsize cars like the camry. its CVT transmission also delivers the power very quickly and smoothly, which will further aid the car in overtaking. and this all is considering the now outdated 2nd gen prius. toyota have have stated that for the 3rd gen, peak torque is sustained for much longer into higher rpms. combined with the 1.8l,

  6. serious22222 says:

well of course, the motor is for low rpm and speeds. thats why the engines there-to power the car at higher rpms (not saying that the motor produces no power at higher rpms too).

of course it doesnt! the tyres are designed for maximum efficiency-thats the whole point of the prius. i was just giving you an idea of the potential of the prius’s motor off the line.

however, the prius is actually quite quick when you consider its intended purpose, which is to drink less.

  7. serious22222 says:

alright, keeping it simple. this video is outdated. in our current time, the right conversation should be about the 3rd gen prius. im not going to talk about things that have past. i, as we should, will talk about present issues rather than old issues weve already dealt with.

  8. drewdude320i says:

A Prius will not beat any kind of fast car to any speed, even 14 mph. The Prius may make 300ft/lbs of torque, but it is at very low engine speed. Horsepower (work an engine can do) = (torque X RPM)/5252.

Also, a Prius doesn’t even have enough rubber under it to accelerate as fast as a Gallardo or Enzo. An Enzo lights up its sticky 335mm tires under acceleration. A Prius won’t even chirp its low rolling resistance FWD tires.

  9. drewdude320i says:

A person can exert a couple hundred ft/lbs of torque with a nice long wrench, but try spinning that wrench around at 4,000rpm while exerting the same load and that is what a car engine is doing. As you can imagine, the engine exerting that torque at high speed can launch a car a lot faster than a person can. The electric motor is more like the person. It can sit there exerting 300ft/lbs, but as soon as the wrench starts to turn faster, it can’t keep up that same load.

  10. drewdude320i says:

I don’t think you’re understanding me. This page shows two specific models. Those are the cars that need to be discussed here. If this video was of a 69 mustang, would you talk about the new ones? No, because it’s not the topic at hand. Yes, people should talk about the 3rd gen Prius. But it’s better to do that on pages already dedicated to that version of the car. If someone wanted to know about the 3rd Prius, they would watch a video about it, not the 2nd. That’s where the comments need to be.

  11. serious22222 says:

just for a wake up call again, the 2010 prius is already the present. it has already been unveiled and will be at dealers in around 3 months time. this video has had its time-2nd prius is no longer the for the present.

  12. serious22222 says:

refer to it now is to refer to things that have already past. the 2nd prius has already past and soon itll be pointless to talk about it. thats why we need to change-the 3rd prius is here, this video is no longer “valid” for our times.

  13. serious22222 says:

valid. if you want to stick yourself to the past back at august 2008, fine, by all means do so. but times have changed. things are moving on and youll still be stuck in the past and sooner or later, youll find yourself as the only one still looking at the 2nd prius when everyone is on the 3rd. again, this video was made in the past for its own time, which is the past. times have changed and things are no longer what they used to be. this video no longer suits our time and our situation and to

  14. serious22222 says:

well, maybe its time to wake up. the next prius is out in 3 months time. thats why we should start discussing it. as for this, there is no reason why the third gen prius cannot be discussed, again, flexibility is essential. simply because the video is about the 2nd prius of the past (look at the date), it cannot stop people from looking at the present or future, which is the 3rd prius. if we dont start changing updating ourselves now, we will soon find outselves discussing things that arent even

  15. drewdude320i says:

This isn’t a Technology for Tomorrow forum. This is a simple youtube video comparing the CURRENT generation Prius, and the current generation Fit. And that’s what needs to be discussed here, on this page. Obviously, if someone wants to hear about the third generation prius, they aren’t going to look at a video of the second gen. If you start comparing a car that hasn’t yet been released, you leaving the topic at hand, which is (again, for emphasis) the second generation prius vs. the honda fit.

  16. serious22222 says:

well maybe you should realise that its time for us to change the topic at hand. if we ignore the advancing vehicle industry and stick to an outdated topic, we’ll find that the topic will be outdated or useless very soon and people will no longer rely on this topic to choose their next car, simply because its outdated. its the basic nature of everything. in darwins theory for eg, we have to adapt to survive.

  17. serious22222 says:

well it again proves that you dont know much. the motor provides 400nm of torque from 0rpm. combined, peak torque is 478nm. the V10 lambo gallardo has 510nm. that v10 torque aint a lot more. in fact, if it was just a test of raw engine (and motor) power ignoring the transmission, drivetrain, crappy suspension, tyres, drivetrain etc which lead to a slower car, the prius, can in fact, in theory, outrun a gallardo from 0-22km/h, largely thanks to the motor.

  18. drewdude320i says:

As much as I would love to sit and speculate about a car that’s not yet released, this video is about the current model Prius. Stick to the topic at hand. I don’t know how you can say the Prius has as much torque as a V8 – have you ever driven any decent car with a V8? The Prius is unbelievably far from being powerful or fast.

  19. drewdude320i says:

500 lbs was an obvious exaggeration. The 3rd generation may have a 1.8L, but the CURRENT model – the model discussed in this video – has a 1.5L. I know what the modes are, and I know what a sport mode is. In cheap cars, it’s usually just different shift points. The Fit is much lighter and sportier than the Prius, but they are both still horribly boring and slow. Obviously any car can have a “sport mode,” it just seems out of character on a car (incorrectly) labeled as the savior of the Earth.

  20. drewdude320i says:

2 Million Priuses have been sold. The 12,000 in Australia are insignificant with respect to the total. If you honestly believe that the batteries will last forever, then you know nothing about chemistry. ALL rechargeable batteries, no matter their composition, lose ability to hold charge over time. Conditions and care make some last longer than others, but it WILL eventually have to be replaced. It’s not theory, it’s scientific and chemical fact.

  21. serious22222 says:

again, take a look at the 3rd gen prius and see for yourself. and this goes for every car; dont complain about it when you dont even know much about it.

  22. serious22222 says:

haha, again your wrong. the prius’s battery weighs 53.3kgs which translate to 117.5ibs. again, youre just showing that you have no knowledge. and the 3rd gen prius’s engine is a 1.8l.

the 3 modes are EV, Power and Eco. and to remind you, the 98hp insight has a sport mode. wrong again. even a 0.1hp can have a sport mode, its just a matter of adjusting throttle responsiveness. youre wrong again.

  23. serious22222 says:

haha. go to the toyota website and click on the 3rd gen prius icon and see for yourself.

its obvious that you dont know anything about the prius. in australia, throughout the 8 years of the prius being here and of the 12000 priuses here, only 2 known cases of battery replacement has been known. they were both taxis, with one which has driven over 330000kms/year and the other over 500000kms/year. you have your theory, but what i said is the truth. and define what you mean by “small”.
